Jamiia Franklin

Jamiia Franklin is a multi-instrumentalist with a concentration in oboe. Jamiia enjoys diversifying her repertoire, especially in jazz and romantic-era works.

Jamiia’s 2024 Recital Series

Jamiia’s performed within several ensembles during 2024 in which she: partook in several world premieres, a ballet with EMU’s symphony orchestra and students of EMU’s dance program, and performed with EMU’s marching band at Ford Field. Jamiia Franklin loves collaborating in these larger ensemble settings. However, she feels called to her smaller, more intimate collaborations through hosting recitals. Through her recitals, Jamiia connects with her audience more than ever: arranging pieces to perform with her friends (and partner), performing expressive oboe solos, and highlighting various groups of musicians Jamiia gigs with.

Jamiia has always been passionate about performing music. This passion has led to her joining several community ensembles and her diligent practice of the oboe, clarinet, english horn, and saxophone. In addition to these instruments, Jamiia has become proficient in bassoon and several brass instruments to widen her performance opportunities.

Using her understanding of wind instruments, Jamiia had begun arranging and composing works for small wind ensembles. Due to her joy of collaborating with others, she often adapts and arranges for traditional and non-traditional ensembles. Jamiia’s arrangements are predominantly contemporary works intended for live performances by Jamiia and her friends and colleagues. In addition, Jamiia arranges works from video games and other media to perform on the oboe and english horn.

Jamiia performs at community events, weddings, funerals, festivals, coffee shops, and community living centers.
